Powerex MH-C401FS Charger

The Maha MH-C401FS 100 Min Cool Charger with Car Adapter charges 1-4 AA or AAA NiMH or NiCD batteries in approximately 100 (AA) or 60 (AAA) minutes, while keeping them cool. As an alternative to this rapid charge method, it allows for a slower, 5-hour gentle charge to keep batteries extra-cool when charging time is not a critical issue. The gentle charge also extends overall battery life. Both methods are driven by a microprocessor termination control, in order to prevent overcharging.

    Have been using it for over 10 years!

    Workhorse. Charges every battery individually based on its particular state of charge. I bought mine around 2010 and i have been using it almost every week to recharcharge NiMH batteries from all brands. I have been using the slow charge option 99% of the time to ease the strain on batteries and charger circuit. A couple of times i had to unplug it/re-plug it because the status LEDs seemed "frozen" but that's about it.
    Once, I even charged an alkaline battery by mistake that leaked acid in the charger. It had stopped working and I thought it was dead and good for the garbage... yet I tried and was able to dismantle it quite easily, clean the circuit board with 99% alcohol, re-assemble it. To my surprise it was working like new and has continued to do so ever since. Nowadays, not many products can claim that type of reliability and ability to be repaired/serviced. As an Electric Enginner I send my "Kudos" to the enginneers who designed this device.

    OK but....

    So, have been using the C401FS for about 18 months. Perhaps charging - some slow some fast - 2 or 3 times a week.

    Has worked fine no problems. Batteries last well.

    However, last week none of the LEDs would show red or green - when batteries connected. Tried power supply on something else and it was OK. I tried multiple times over about a week and it was no-show, no LEDS; unit appeared dead (although still took power ????).

    Then today, just before chucking in the bin it worked again!! Very strange.

    So, it is a good unit although has a strange little oddity that I'm not sure about.....

    Perfect small charger. I have an older one from years ago that is still performing well. Just note that the newer models do not come with a clear cover. Manufacturer found that people were not "smart" enough to open the cover while charging. Also nice to use in the car with the adapter.
